- Ganglions are a benign bulging out of a fluid filled sac. Usually they come from a joint or tendon
- Sometimes they disappear spontaneously, but they can come back and they can also get bigger
- Ganglions can be present for many years and not cause a problem
- However ganglions can cause a problem for two main reasons
- They can squash tissue around them OR they can get pinched when a joint is moving causing pain
- They can indicate damage to the joint underneath which may lead to more problems if not identified
- A ganglion can be cut out, but there is a 25% chance it will come back
