Dr Andrew Clout

FRACS / FA OrthA / ASOS

Through collaboration with my anaesthetic colleagues and allied health team we have developed a structured team-based protocol aiming to minimise complications and help you achieve rapid return of function following hip and knee replacement surgery. I am committed to keeping at the forefront of evolving technology and research in my field to provide high quality, evidence-based care to all my patients. I strive to ensure my patients have a good understanding of their condition and will openly discuss management options, and provide realistic expectations of surgery, including the benefits, risks and expected recovery.

We have excellent facilities here in the Riverina and I understand the challenges of distance in our regional setting. I will work with you, your GP and local therapists to achieve an optimal functional outcome from your surgery.
Originally from Wollongong, I undertook my primary medical studies at the University of New South Wales, graduating in 2007.  My specialist orthopaedic training was at various urban and rural hospital including several major trauma centres and subspecialty training at The Sydney Hand Hospital and The Children’s Hospital at Westmead.

On completion of my orthopaedic training, I returned to Wagga Wagga to undertake a fellowship in hip and knee replacement under the tutorage of Mr Adrian van der Rijt. The hard-working attitude of its’ people and the lifestyle it has on offer made it an easy decision to settle in the Riverina. Prior to starting practice, I was awarded a fellowship at the University of Western Ontario and attained a further year of subspecialty training in primary and revision hip and knee replacement surgery at Canada’s largest referral centre for complex joint replacement and research. I also had the opportunity to take part in orthopaedic outreach work in Guatemala and undertake several original research projects in joint replacement.

My particular interests include:

Hip and knee replacement surgery – including primary, complex and revision surgery for worn, failed or infected joint replacements. My fellowship training included various approaches to hip replacement, as well as joint preserving surgeries such as partial knee replacement, high tibial osteotomy and hip resurfacing.

Arthroscopic knee procedures – including anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction.

Trauma surgery – I regularly cover on-call at the Wagga Wagga Rural Referral Hospital. My goal is achieving the earliest possible return to function in trauma patients of all ages and functional levels. I am always available to discuss the management of acute injuries with GPs and referring hospitals.

Currently, I operate at Calvary Hospital and Wagga Wagga Rural Referral Hospital. I am available for consultation at Riverina Orthopaedics, Connection Medical Center Tumut, Young District Medical Centre and West Wyalong Medical Center. I endeavour to see patients in a timely fashion and can always be contacted promptly if there are problems or concerns.
